Students: Undergraduate and Graduate School

March 18, 2024

Welcome college students and graduate students.  The mission of AAUW is to advocate for gender equity and economic security. AAUW strives to empower women and train them to negotiate for pay and benefits and to pursue leadership roles. We want you to be a success.  The links below provide you with information and skills to help you achieve your goals.

From scholarships to salary negotiation techniques, AAUW offers many benefits and opportunities for students. For more on the benefits of being a part of the C/U partnership program, visit AAUW National’s informational page Tools for Students and Campus Professionals

Opportunities for Students in the College/University Partnership Program

Below are several areas in which AAUW has programs designed to teach, inspire and empower students:

Leadership

AAUW’s annual conference, The National Conference for College Women Student Leaders (NCCWSL), brings together more than 800 young women from around the country for two and a half days of leadership training, networking and inspiration. Many schools’ Student Affairs offices and local AAUW branches are able to fund NCCWSL registration for students.

Women’s Economic Empowerment Initiative

AAUW is proud to introduce our Women’s Economic Empowerment Initiative, a comprehensive program dedicated to equipping women with essential skills to thrive financially and build strong futures. Through our initiative, we offer:

  • AAUW Work Smart: Know Your Value and Get Paid – Training for early and mid-career professionals on negotiating for fair salaries, better benefits, and advancement opportunities.
  • AAUW Start Smart – AAUW Start Smart is specifically designed for college women entering the job market, teaching effective salary negotiation techniques to boost your confidence and negotiation skills.
  • AAUW Money Smart – The AAUW Money Smart program is aimed at providing all women with the personal finance information they need to ensure their own financial security.

Workforce and Economic Security

AAUW knows money is power, and women will never be equal to men until they achieve full parity in earnings and wealth. In recent decades, American women have made significant strides toward economic equality: Women make up nearly half the U.S. workforce, and two-thirds of women are their family’s primary or co-breadwinner. Yet men continue to earn more money—and accumulate more wealth—than women do.
