Branch Support Committee 3 years 2021 – 2023

Talk about any AAUW California conventions you attended in the last five years.

San Diego; San Francisco; Irvine ( twice); Los Angeles. We have not held an in-person event in three years, so these are the past State and National conventions I have attended.

Talk about any pertinent community activities or connections and their corresponding dates.

Our Branch is a member of the Laguna Beach Chamber of Commerce. We represented AAUW at several civic events over the past two years (2022-2023). I have participated in Memorial Day, Veterans Day, Patriots Day Parade, and the State of the City Luncheon.

Our Branch raises money for scholarships for women and girls to attend 2 year and four-year colleges. We raise enough money to award 18 scholarships across 8 local schools each year through several fund raisers that involve the community. Our scholarships range in size from $1000 to $3000 per student. We award them to women who are returning students whose education has been interrupted and we also award scholarships to graduating High School seniors from Title 1 schools. These scholarships have been ongoing for over 20 years.

Our 10 Tech Trek students come from 4 different communities where we have a presence. The past three years we have sent 10 girls each year. We also send local middle school girls to the Ocean Institute in Dana Point each summer. Each year for the past 5 years we have sent 5 girls.

Talk about any AAUW National conventions you have attended.

I believe San Diego was the only National convention I attended. It was a wonderful experience. The speaker was Tara Mohr and she so influenced me I joined her online organization.

Describe any AAUW National positions and years you served.

N/A.

Describe your employment/professional experience, including current employment.

I spent 40 years in the technology business in various sales and consulting management roles. I was with IBM Corporation for 25 years and Oracle Corporation for 15 years.
I also have served on the Board of Directors of my local sorority alumnae chapter for the past seven years. Currently I am serving as President for a two-year term.

Are you available to visit branches statewide?

YES

Describe any other special skills or experience.

Project Management, Marketing and Sales, presentation skills

Give your reasons for running for this office.

I believe passionately in the Mission and Goals of AAUW. I have been a member since 2007 and have always participated in the leadership of my Branch. I have made so many close friends in this organization and I want to continue giving to its success. Over the years I have watched AAUW California deliver on many programs and initiatives. In serving on the State Branch Support committee, I have seen first-hand how effective and influential the State leadership has been. The support you have given to the members and the branches is impressive. Many organizations begin a project, but it never comes to fruition. There are never any deliverables. As a project manager I have watched hundreds of projects succeed and fail. I believe AAUW CA has the structure and the individuals it takes to be successful, and I want to be a part of that success.
