Donna Holmes Candidate Bio 2024

February 6, 2024

Describe any previous branch positions and years you served.

President 2017-2019, Finance 2009-2011, Funds 1/1/2012-2017, Membership 2021-2023, Membership Finance, Directory & web support 2021-present, IBC rep 2012-2017 & 2019 to present

Describe any AAUW California positions and years you served.

State IBC liaison while Alicia Hetman was present.

Talk about any AAUW California conventions you attended in the last five years.

Was able to attend the last in person State Convention in 2018 where our branch was recognized for completing a Career Action Grant to honor our 100th Anniversary. Marty McKnew and I established and completed the grant in under 5 years as well as helping Alicia Hetman complete her Fund after she was State President. Work on the IBC Fund luncheon every year and, after 3 years on Zoom we were back in person today!

Talk about any pertinent community activities or connections and their corresponding dates.

I was an Instructor’s Assistant and Tutorial Supervisor for the Math department at American River College for 20 years giving me many contacts at ARC and Los Rios Community College District. Retired in May 2022 but am still on mailing list.

Describe your employment/professional experience, including current employment.

Worked for Pacific Bell for 33+ years from 1967 – 2000. Obtained teaching creational and worked on contract for American River College starting in January 2002 until 2022. Provided estate, medical and financial power of attorney work for my parents, brother-in-law and his wife as well as my husband. This has taught me a lot about senior care, services and needs.

Describe any other special skills or experience.

I spent many years in sales at Pacific Bell and teaching is a different kind of sales. Sales and ease in public speaking are in my DNA.

Give your reasons for running for this office.

When I joined the Sacramento Branch the focus was local, Tech Trek, Scholarships, Speech Trek, book groups, etc. Donating to Funds was last on their minds. Since joining the board in 2009 I have worked to change that. We now donate thousands to funds, send girls to NCCWSL and have one of the highest numbers of Legacy Circle members. I want to build on that momentum and expand it State-wide.

Are you available to visit branches statewide?

Yes.
