Web Policies
Website Policy

AAUW California maintains an Internet site at www.aauw-ca.org. It is loaded on the server of AAUW California's Internet service provider and has limitations set by contract.

Two purposes are served through the Internet site: visibility for AAUW California and its branches, and communication with members. Primarily the site has information about AAUW California and its programs. The site has links to branch Web sites and to the Association Web site.

As space permits (within the limitations of the contract with the Internet service provider) branch projects related to the current program priorities of AAUW may be highlighted on the site. Contact the AAUW California Director of Communications (communications1@aauw-ca.org) to include information about your branch.

E-Mail Lists - Mailman

AAUW California also maintains an e-mail network of lists created with Mailman within the Members Only area of our website. This area is password-protected; the password/username were distributed to all branch Presidents by regular mail in late February 2004. Please check with your local branch President for this information, or with the AAUW California Office.

Website Privacy

Read our website privacy policy, adopted January 2004. This includes an explanation of use of email addresses and privacy in regards to our E-Mail lists.

Branch Websites

The AAUW California Website Administrator is available to provide minimal assistance to branches in the preparation of material for their sites. Links to branch Web sites hosted on other servers will be maintained, with no limit.

Here's a template for a simple branch Website. You are free to use it as a model for your branch Web site. After you have built your Web site, contact Web Support to add your site to the AAUW California Branches page.

In addition, visit the Association webpage on branch websites for information they have gathered to assist this process. The AAUW Style Guide and AAUW logos and graphics for download are also available to help you create your branch website.

Website Accessibility

Since AAUW values diversity and believes communications tools should be accessible to all, AAUW California supports the use of online Web-based accessibility evaluation tools--such as the Bobby program--to ensure accessibility to our site by the disabled. Bobby is a program developed by the Center for Applied Special Technology (CAST), which analyzes Web pages to see if they are accessible to many Web browsers and to people with disabilities. As our website has undergone many changes, it no longer is Bobby-approved. Reinstating that accessibility is a goal we hope to reach soon.

To learn more about these issues, visit the CAST Web site. AAUW California is in the process of making all AAUW California pages accessible. If you need more information about these subjects, please contact the AAUW California Website Administrator.
