Woman to Woman Summit

The second annual Woman to Woman Summit continued the work began at the first summit in 2004. The planning committee, facilitated by the AAUW CA Program Development Committee, included representatives from the following sister organizations: California Women Lawyers, California Women's Law Center, HOPE (Hispanas Organized for Political Equality), State of CA Commission on the Status of Women, The California Women's Agenda, and the National Economic Development and Law Center and Californians for Family Economic Self-Sufficiency.

Based on each organization's 2005-2006 priorities and the dialogue begun at the 2004 Woman to Woman Summit, the planning committee identified the following key topics: Social Security, Pay Equity, and Reproductive Choice as they relate to women. In addition to continuing a statewide dialogue on these issues, the planning committee determined that the Summit should include a call to action and brainstorming on individual, community, and state action steps on these issues. An integral element in the call to action, echoed by the panel moderator and the keynote speaker, was the issue of getting women elected and appointed to public office. This white paper is one of the action steps advocated by the planning committee and includes an overview and key points raised in the Summit presentations and roundtable dialogues. Our intent is to continue the dialogue throughout the year, in local chapters/branches of our organizations and statewide, to keep the momentum going and to continue to make a difference for all Californians.
