Athletes in Skirts by Palos Verdes Peninsula Branch

The AAUW/PVP Readers Theater celebrates the 40th anniversary of the passage of Title IX by presenting an original play, Athletes in Skirts, written and directed by Jacky Mason an AAUW/PVP member.

The AAUW Readers Theater players will present Athletes in Skirts to the public.  A light lunch is included.

Forty years ago, in 1972, many women’s organizations were celebrating the passage of the Title IX legislation, and the American Association of University Women was certainly one of them.  Jacky Mason has chosen to highlight this success by writing a dramatic and entertaining play, Athletes in Skirts, whichfeatures Annie Oakley, Gertrude Ederle, Babe Didrikson, and Billie Jean King, who were pioneers in breaking down the barriers to women in sports long before the passage of Title IX.

Proceeds from this performance will be donated to the national AAUW Educational Opportunity Fund.

AAUW advances equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy and research.  Membership in AAUW is open to all graduates who hold an associate or higher degree from a regionally accredited college or university

     Human Trafficking Conference

The United States has now the dubious distinction of leading the world in the number of trafficking victims. Between 100,000 and 300,000 underage girls are being trafficked nightly in the U.S (as stated by CNN). The average age of the victims is between 12 and 14 although some are younger. Last May the Bilateral Safety Corridor Coalition presented a conference where it was stated that this issue has become a local issue.   Girls in this area are put on a circuit of Los Angeles, San Diego, Las Vegas and Phoenix. Also a clue for the schools is these girls are regularly absent on Fridays and Mondays.

The AAUW-CA International Advocacy Committee, the San Diego Branch and the La Mesa-El Cajon Branch are co-sponsoring a conference on Saturday, April 28
