EF Fellow Speaker Request
How to Request an EF Fellow Speaker

AAUW California is fortunate to have many recipients of Educational Foundation Grants studying here. Fellows and grant recipients can be strong motivators when members are deciding where to donate money.

If you want a fellow or a grant recipient as a speaker, you must work with one of our AAUW CA EF schedulers. Current fellows are heavily involved in their studies and very busy. The schedulers generally require four to six weeks of advance notice to schedule a speaker. Generally, the schedulers contact current fellows, but on occasion may call on past fellows who are often more readily available, and can also speak to the longer-term impact an award has had on their lives.

We suggest that you prepare a backup program should a fellow not be available on the dates you request.

According to AAUW CA Policies and Procedures, branches are limited to one visit from a current fellow every other year. Branches may, however, request visits in their off years, and if availability allows, a speaker may be scheduled. These requests will be considered after all eligible branch requests have been filled.

Branches should extend a hand of friendship to their speaker without imposing obligations on her. Fellows may know very little about branch-level AAUW and may be delighted to join in your branch activities if their time allows.

Requirements Expected of AAUW CA Branches When Inviting EF Grant Recipients
A.  DO NOT CONTACT fellows or other EF Grant Recipients directly to be speakers. Our AAUW CA EF Schedulers act as clearinghouses and expedite the process for all involved. We cannot have individual branches contacting EF fellows, who are often busy students. Their time and privacy deserve our respect.
B.  An EF Grant Recipient should be allowed a minimum of 15 minutes to speak.
C.  No expenses should be incurred by the EF Grant Recipient:
  •
  • A minimum of $30 - $50 honorarium must be given.
  •
  • Transportation ($.40 per mile) or public transportation fare paid when appropriate.
  •
  • Speaker's meal if applicable.
  •
  • Overnight accommodations if necessary.
Please use the EF Speaker Request form to request an EF speaker. Note that this form is in our Members Only section. If you are a member and need assistance, please email office@aauw-ca.org.
