As you know, branches are required to make mandatory amendments to their bylaws to comply with recent changes in DC corporate law.
Holly Kearl's recent visit in California was a whirlwind as she went to three areas in one weekend: Napa, Berkeley and San Jose. I followed her from Berkeley to San Jose. Holly's presentation on harassment and bullying was both informational and insightful. It was informed by some brilliant research on the part of AAUW and its expert team.

One of the main pieces of information that I gleaned from the lecture was the difference between harassment and bullying.

Give a Grad a Gift!

How many of us have children who are graduating from college this year? My daughter graduated in June from Cal State East Bay, and I gave her the gift of AAUW membership. If our children, grandchildren, nieces or nephews don't join, how can we expect everyone else to join?

I just filled out the Give a Grad a Gift Application on the National website www.aauw.org.

The AAUW CA Board of Directors has agreed to wave the California 2010-2011 state dues for these new members. If the new member decides to join a branch, she will only need to pay the branch dues.

Please give a gift to new grads.

The report, Where The Girls Are: The Facts About Gender Equity In Education, presents a comprehensive look at girls' educational achievement during the past 35 years, paying special attention to the relationship between girls' and boys' progress. Analyses of results from national standardized tests, such as the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) and the SAT and ACT college entrance examinations, as well as other measures of educational achievement, provide an overall picture of trends in gender equity from elementary school to college and beyond.
