More Information About "Bullies Anonymous"

Many convention attendees inquired about BULLIES ANONYMOUS. Branches or schools interested in producing it, can obtain the script and rights from www.badwolfpress.com. The rights are extremely reasonable - about $63. You get permission to copy the scripts, and a CD of all the songs.

Future performances of the show will be:

May 12th, 1PM at Franklin Elementary Carnival, 2385 Trousdale Drive, Burlingame .
North Shoreview Montessori will be performing BULLIES ANONYMOUS, June 8th, 7PM. 1301 Cypress Avenue, San Mateo.
Bayside Stem Academy will be also performing the show on June 6th, 11:00AM at the Bayside Performing Arts Center, 2025 Kehoe Avenue, San Mateo.

All performances are free and open to the public.

It's Global and It's Local: Human Trafficking

Director Sherry Ludwig reports that over 130 educators, students, experts, victims and like-minded community groups gathered at the San Diego County Office of Education on Sat, April 28, to explore the 3 P's of human trafficking: prevention, prosecution and protection. The workshop was a full day community conference on human trafficking and the sexual exploitation of women and children in San Diego.

The day began with a screening of the film, Indoctrinated: The Grooming of Our Children into Prostitution (by Jim Ellis), and continued with education panelists, presentations on global Issues, law enforcement experts and ended with a panel on rescue and restore. The film and its accompanying study guide are available for a minimal cost of $8 to cover duplication and mailing. To download the order form click HERE.

Kudos to Anne Hoiberg and Myrra Lee, workshop organizers and longtime activists in support of human trafficking awareness, and to all members of the La Mesa-El Cajon and San Diego Branches who helped to make the day such a success. The workshop was supported in part by an AAUW CA mini-grant and a contribution from the International Advocacy Program budget.

Jane Roberts, our Convention workshop presenter for Gender Inequality: A Moral Dilemma, left us with many facts and figures to think about regarding over population and poverty. She's a wealth of information about the connection between poverty, maternal well-being, and human trafficking. We were so pleased to see 45 conference goers in the audience and regret that we couldn't accommodate more of you. When Jane returns from the AAUW NY Convention in Rochester, we are planning to send out her book to all of you who did not receive one. If you did not sign the sheet that was passed around, please contact me or Susan Crabtree at our Sacramento Office. Final Opportunity to See A Mutual Onus

A MUTUAL ONUS, a play written by AAUW CA Program Director, Cathy Foxhoven, will be performed at Academy of Arts University, 79 New Montgomery, Theatre, San Francisco April 20th, 7PM.

One of the actresses, fourth from the left in the photo, is Sejal Parek, niece of Director Bakula Maniar.

Cathy is excited to report that, due to Holly Kearl's recent coverage of the play in AAUW Dialog, branches in Illinois and Colorado are interested in performing it.

Convention Connection Corner Was a Huge Success!

Thanks to all those convention attendees who visited the Connection Corner Exploratorium over the weekend and played our Connection Corner Passport game.

Also many thanks to all the branches who participated with their exciting and innovative displays - all very creative. We hope everyone enjoyed the venue and ambiance as much as we enjoyed creating it.

The winner of the Saturday night raffle is Shelly Johnson from the San Luis Obispo Branch. She won a one year AAUW National & State membership renewal worth $65.

The Public Policy committee just completed our annual meeting. We reviewed 35 California bills and got a legislative update from our advocate, Shannon Smith-Crowley.

2012 is an important election! Many things that are essential to our mission are at stake. AAUW members need to actively educate and mobilize women voters to make our voices heard.

Sherry Ludwig Follows Holly Kearl's "Crossing the Line" Presentations

Holly Kearl's recent visit in California was a whirlwind as she went to three areas in one weekend: Napa, Berkeley and San Jose. I followed her from Berkeley to San Jose. Holly's presentation on harassment and bullying was both informational and insightful. It was informed by some brilliant research on the part of AAUW and its expert team.

One of the main pieces of information that I gleaned from the lecture was the difference between harassment and bullying.

Congratulations to Three California Winners of AAUW Art Contest!

The winners of the 2012 AAUW art contest have been announced and three of them are from California branches. All the winning art will be featured on AAUW note cards that will be sent to members this Spring.

Reporting on CSW 56 Continues with Sherry Ludwig

One of the goals of CSW 56 is to set the theme for next year’s Commission. The Preparatory Panel for 2013 met on Wed, Feb 29, to do just that. Next year’s topic will be the Elimination and Prevention of All Forms of Violence Against Women.

The Preparatory Panel Speakers are listed below with their topics next to their names.
- Ms. Nduku Kilonzo, Liverpool VCT (Kenya): Provision of support services to women and girls victims/survivors of violence
- Ms. Marai Larasi, End Violence against Women Coalition (UK): Primary prevention of all forms of violence against women and girls
- Ms. Margarita Quintanilla, PATH-InterCambios (Nicaragua): Emerging practices in providing support services and primary prevention of violence against women and girls.
