The 2018 Legislative Session is dominated by issues brought to the forefront because of the efforts of the #MeToo, #TimesUp and #WeSaidEnough campaigns. More than a dozen bills related to fighting sexual harassment, both in the Legislature and more broadly have been introduced. This movement has helped keep the momentum going in the fight for #EqualPay, and AAUW CA is pleased to continue the fight by cosponsoring two bills – AB 2282 (Eggman), to refine the language now in law from previous efforts on prohibiting employers from asking for prior salary in the job interview process, and from using it discriminatorily should they obtain it (such as in job promotions within the company) and SB 1284 (Jackson) on pay transparency. We continue to work with the Stronger California coalition on the Women’s Economic Agenda. The Pay Equity Taskforce is monitored as it continues its work under the California Commission on the Status of Women and Girls to develop tools for employers and employees related to implementation and compliance of the California Equal Pay Act.
